Personal Sports

Had an interesting conversation with Pieter over lunch today about sports and how they came about. I was describing the spontaneous long-jump competition me and Kim had in Cornwall last week, when he brought up the subject of the triple jump, surely one of the bizarrest track-n-field events. The theory went that some guy who was a inadequate long-jumper noticed that when jumping and hopping he could actually go really far, and thought 'Sod this, I'll invent my own sport!'. And thus, for some glorious period, he was the world's best Triple Jumper. So he invented a new sport purely because he was good at some highly specific activity. We imagined that pretty much everyone much be superb at something, so perhaps everyone could have their own custom sport....

Personally, I'm pretty good at balancing Jenga blocks on top of each other. London 2012 here I come!

So, I suppose you're probably expecting something really quite spectacular and thought-provoking from my first-ever Blog post.. You're not? Oh.

Well, luckily you're right!

So. The title. We got our tenancy agreement though for another year in our flat today, and I got everyone to sign it.
Now for some reason known only to lawyers, the signature page had in big writing at the top the words:

"Witness the hand of the said"

Anyway we tried unsuccessfully to work out WTF that could possibly mean before forging some signatures and being done with it.

I think it sounds kind of cool, like a death metal album from 1982 or something. Perhaps some readers may be able to shed light on this 'intriguing' issue..
